Race with the Devil (1975)
A simple premise that gets by with having believable characters that act pretty rational within their capabilities. I like that the chase and danger is developed not by someone making stupid choices for plot reasons, but an increasing worryingly escalation of the extent of the danger they are in. It is far from as gruesome as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I was reminded of anyway as the paranoia for the locals in remote Texas has a similar vibe to it.
