French Connection II (1975)
Was sort of surprise this got a sequel and a good one at that. Gene Hackman as a fish out of water in Paris works really well. Both slightly cute and amusing, yet also dead serious as things get pretty dark quickly. The film works on several different modes throughout, starting with the almost humorous American cop lost in France, then get dark when he gets captured and forced addicted to heroin, and wrapping up in some good old fashioned shootouts. Not a fast paced film, but enough dynamic shift to keep things interesting for its runtime.
