Victims of Sin (1951)
What a fantastic surprise. Not familiar with Mexican film at all, but there is clearly a unique style and film language. It is dance with amazing energy, combined with some tragic operatic drama with all emotions on full display. A lot happens in a fairly short runtime, some times making huge jumps in time, yet as a whole that frenetic energy and tempo worked. NinĂ³n Sevilla is fantastic in the lead and I love how she and basically every other woman in this fought back justified violence and fierceness against the tyrannic men around them. Very distinct from the Hollywood counterparts of the era.
