The Invite (2026)

Second great cinematic experience of the year, and like Camp Miasma, also about the detriments of sexual repression. From a somewhat different angle. Very similar to Carnage in structure and overall verbal energy, but here the host couple are clearly the most unstable of them.

The rapid fire dialogue flows in an extreme tempo filled with sarcastic remarks, most of them from Seth Rogan, whereas Olivia Wilde delivers in body language and facial expressions. She was by far the highlight for me. Years of frustrations shine through in small yet extremely loud cues. Rogan is being mostly Rogan, which is also my only real big criticism here. A bit boring that he almost always plays the same sort of loud obnoxious sarcastic character.

The thematics aren’t exactly subtle, as the conversations is very direct on the core of the problem. Issues that may come out as sexual frustrations, but is really rooted in too much self loathe and lack of giving room to oneself in a long running marriage.
