Face/Off (1997)
Last time I saw this was on VHS, so it has been a while. Still holds up, and it is due to brilliant casting. Travolta and Cage are perfect to play each other. I cannot imagine any other actor than Travolta who could match Cage’s crazyness, and only Cage could pull off playing someone else pretending to be crazy Cage. John Woo now has a bigger budget, so we get more explosions and more elaborate action pieces with all kinds of transportation devices being destroyed, but he still keeps his Hong Kong approach to shootouts. Sparks, splinters, shredded paper, doves, slow motion, dual wielding etc. fits perfectly into the 90s cheesy action mold.
