The Neon Demon (2016)

There could be a point with a movie about very superficial industry with extremely naive people, and making it handle its subject matter in a rather naive non-subtle superficial manner. For that it works well, but the repeated on the nose symbolism did become a bit tiresome as it didn’t feel like the movie had a lot more to offer after a certain point. Everything does get more extreme, more absurd, more expressive, but still mostly the same thing. Refn is great at bombarding the senses, and for a audiovisual experience in a dark room with the volume turned up, it did deliver. Just not much afterwards.
