To Live and Die in L.A. (1985)
Like a gritty 70s police thriller shot in the 80s. It has the best of both eras. Everything is dirty, both physically and institutionally. Everything goes wrong, police and gangsters have their plans blowing up into a big mess. But it also beautifully shot, complex characters and a production budget to back things up.
