Red Desert (1964)

From Italian films I am used to beautiful landscapes and architecture. Here that is replaced with ugly industrial buildings, yellow smoke and lakes with industrial waste. This works a mirror for the troubled interior mind of Monica Vitti, contrasted by the occasional beautiful scene filled with warm colors and happy atmosphere. This feels like a very intellectual film, a type I do have some trouble properly engaging with. So this ends in the box of interesting at an emotional distance.
