Cape Fear (1962)
Been a while since I have seen a black and white film from the 1960s, and they really have a unique look. Very clear beautiful contrasts, that make them stand out compared to previous decades. Been years since I saw Scorsese’s remake, but the basic premise is hard to forget and in that sense a timeless premise for high tension. Admittedly sometimes a bit unintentionally melodramatic with its bombastic score whenever there is tension on screen, but it holds up as especially the ending is terrifying on all parameters. The constant threat of violence makes it much stronger than actual violence. A film that benefits from a complete lack of ambiguity.
