The Flame of New Orleans (1941)
This is really sort of middling lightweight fluff, but with some redeeming qualities to make it worthwhile. Most of it comes down to set design and performances. Everyone plays over the top, exaggerated gestures and emotions. Not sure if it was exactly that type of comedy they aimed, but with the right mindset it was delightfully silly at times. Dietrich is obviously the highlight, playing the coy intentionally slightly ignorant woman playing the silly game of romance. In addition, I really enjoyed whenever Theresa Harris was on screen. When almost everyone else was slightly aloof, she came in with a more grounded intelligence presence. Still, overall the film is really too much fluff without much substance.
