Journey to Italy (1954)
This was just a pleasant rewatch. The setting is a joy to be in, and still fascinating to see this couple in their self-made destruction of their marriage. What was clearer to me this time was how the entire film shows them as practically isolated. In the car, in the villa, even at social parties they are not really present. Alex aimlessly wandering about, Katherine surrounding herself with dead people of the past in museums or the catacombs. Only in the end when they by accident find themselves surrounded by happy people celebrating, they are able to see themselves as living people again with emotions and dreams.
