City on Fire (1987)

While it isn’t as politically charged, the grit and brutality was very reminiscent of poliziotteschi. It leans more into the undercover cop narrative and Chow Yun-Fat really commits himself here. I like the range of his emotions on display here. He embodies both the goofy womanizer and straight out scared when he is in deep in his undercover operation. Overall a competent cop action movie, but it did drag a bit in the middle.
