Revanche (2008)

So this was from the challenge of choosing a film by its cover, so I had zero prior knowledge or expectations to this. It established itself rather quickly with its brothel setting, and with different destinies that converge through coincidences. The compelling thing came to be the characters, as especially the male bankrobber isn’t exactly a likeable nice person, I came to form a great deal of sympathy for his situation. The policeman is on the surface easier to excuse the mistake he made, and the film lingers on the mirroring of these two peoples unresolved emotions. I wondered where it will go as it sure takes it times to pick a direction. I did found the narrative to end up being a little too contrived, but as an exploration of the concept of regret, second chances, guilt and broken dreams it worked really well.
