Aladdin (1992)

The Disney movies you watch growing up stays with you in ways that cannot be recreated later. Aladdin is special to me as it was the first movie I became properly obsessed with. I won a contest and got tickets to the pre-premiere when it came to Denmark in 1933. I was 8 at the time. We got it on VHS as soon as it was released and it was in frequent rotation. I watched all the other Disney movies as well, but this was never rivaled. It is simply so much fun, fantastic songs and I know the original English voice acting is rightfully praised, but the Danish voice actors were on a magical level that hasn’t been topped since. I think it even got some awards and high praise from Disney in their own rankings of the best translations. Anyways my daughter wanted to watch it and while it probably was just another good movie for her and a cozy Friday movie night with some sweets, it still holds up. I was still moved by the spectacle, got emotionally nostalgic by the songs and was reminded that Jafar really is the best cartoon villain ever. Like no other he posses that rare quality of totally unhinged draconian evil where only Palpatine can compete. I miss those kinds of one-dimensional villains.
