Django (1966)

I have generally always went for the English dub when watching spaghetti western if it was available. Both languages are dubbed so neither is the “correct” one so to speak, and it made sense to aim for world cohesion; the setting is the American west so they should speak English. Nothing wrong with that, but these films are still Italian productions and made mostly by Italian directors. An Italian dub is a different kind of correct, one that is closer to culture of their making. And in some cases, the English dub simply isn’t very good like is the case with Django. So I watched it again in Italian and it was remarkably better. Not that it becomes a completely different film, but I think the Italian actors carry the emotional weight a lot better. The English is rather flat and just sounds more like a dub in the sound mix. I definitely need to revisit some more old favorites with Italian dub!
