Desk Set (1957)
A film from 1957 about computers maybe taking peoples job made in collaboration with IBM. It was uncanny how little there would need to be changed if this was made today with ChatGPT. Some pieces of dialogue are literally 1:1 of what is said today, like the argument that it will be used to free up human workers for other to data classification problems and context management. That said, that part of the story is only a minor thing in this film, but thankfully the banter between Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn was an absolute delight to behold. Both witty and charming, and they both give room to each other, neither stealing the show. They are very relaxed and confident in their roles, which I think is in part to both of them being in their 50s. It brings an element of maturity to the characters that I have rarely seen in these classic Hollywood romantic comedies. While I picked this film up for its intriguing premise of machine learning, it was those two that ended up being the best part.
