Certified Copy (2010)

This was strange, mostly good strange, intriguingly odd. Never feels completely arbitrary. It seems pretty straight forward to mirror the intellectual discussions about the value of copies of artwork into a reflection of romantic relationship, as a way to ask the question of the limits between real love and love that is pretended. The most remarkable aspect of watching this was for me to see the actors shift in mood and body language, often within the same long take. Going from extreme to the other, none feeling completely authentic but still believable. However, it was mostly an intellectual exercise, and I honestly didn’t get much insightful pondering out of the otherwise compelling premise.
