I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932)

While this classic leaves little room for doubt or ambiguity, it does make its point in an effective well paced manner. The dehumanization and brutality of the prison system is on full display and the narrative itself works a metalayer for the real world side effects of the release of this movie. It may be almost 100 years old, but you still see the “tough of crime”-crowd saying more or less the same things today. I am usually a bit turned off by melodrama, but I was surprised how much this managed to move me regardless. Very gripping tale of injustice.
