The Bitch (1984)
The main premise here is deeply problematic but can be seen as a stepping stone for Huppert’s later efforts in Elle and The Piano Teacher. A few minutes in, Huppert gets brutally raped, but she seems to enjoy it. He does go to prison, but stalks her when he is released, there is a bit back and forth and she apparently falls for him again. Being controversial is one thing, that can be interesting, but when the motivations of the characters are impossible to read - and not in the intriguing way, it is difficult get much from this odd uneven movie. It is mostly worth watching for seeing the early development stages of Huppert’s later signature demeanor.
