Two Women (1960)

Absolutely stunning black and white cinematography! Along with most other films with Sophia Loren, she displays a complex mix of strong will and vulnerability. She is assertive and lashes out at all the men who are getting too close. There is a surprising amount of feminist points I didn’t expect from a film set during WW2. What starts out as an almost little holiday mother and daughter ends in a grueling nightmare, which both strengthens the bond between them and creates distance. Well deserved Oscar for Loren here.
