Winter in Sokcho (2024)
If I were to point to an example of the types of films that are streaming on Mubi, I could point to this. A French/South Korean production, modern film festival aesthetics, unique location and a introspective emotional story that a blend of feel good and tragic. Nice visuals, plenty of food ASMR if that is your thing, and a cold winter atmosphere in every frame. I liked the dynamic between the mysterious French artist and the younger Soo-Ha. I also appreciate it never went fully for romantic attraction, it is clearly more fascination and longing for a more mature person in her life Soo-Ha seeks, but it balances slightly on what type of attraction that is going on. In the end, I just didn’t think it surmounted to that much and it shows it is a directorial debut - with promising potential.
