I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)

Yet again Kaufman does something baffling, weird, unique, incomprehensible and quietly gripping. From the start there is a sense of something being a bit “off”, but the tension between the couple feels real and authentic. The offness continues and it steers away from everyday reality, but the authenticity remains. The various philosophical discussions are very meta and everything becomes one big symbolic metaphor as things turn even stranger, but it somehow keeps feeling natural within the film. The metaphors are equally confusing and makes perfect sense.
