Bullitt (1968)

Since I have been especially into 70s crime thrillers lately, I was keen on seeing this highly influential film that in some ways started it all, but it is also rather different than where the style developed in the following years. It is more a slow procedural police drama, with a few fast paced action sequences, and McQueen is much more subdued and restrained than characters such as Harry Callahan that bought a bigger personality to the set. Which honestly also made the film a little bit boring for me at times. It would be unfair to say that the iconic car chases is the only thing this film has to offer, but it was one of those films where my enjoyment came more from filling in the blanks of its influence on later films than the film itself.
