Romance (1999)

A case of something not quite like anything else, and I am still not sure what the heck I have just watched. Films exploring themes of repressed sexuality is always unconformable to watch, and Breillat succeeds in challenging my views. The problem was however that it was hard to get a grasp of Marie. She felt more like a vehicle to drive some admittedly interesting conversations and for driving the very symbolic narrative of the entire spectrum of sex - from desire to childbirth, and less like a real person with motivations. I found her relationship with Rocco to be the most interesting, as their conversations is clearly meant as a very direct commenting on Rocco and his work in the porn industry.
