Gabrielle (2005)

Honestly this was mainly boring, but it does have elements that are interesting. The general relationship dynamic is intriguing, with this married couple whom seemingly have been living for years with a mutual understanding that their marriage was without love or passion, but upheld for reasons of keeping up appearances. That understanding is completely shattered when Isabelle Huppert’s character admits she has found interest in another man, then things start falling apart and suppressed emotions surface. I am not familiar with the director, but given what I can read about his background in theater and opera, the special film style make sense, as it has the feel of a stage play with operatic elements. That style just didn’t have the greatest effect on me, but Huppert is as usual worth seeing.
