American Psycho (2000)
This was fun revisiting after about 25 years. There is definitely much more depth and social critique to this beyond the bloody spectacle that I found cool at 15. Bateman lives in a world full of excess, it is all surface and appearance, and everything is measured on materialistic values. Him and his partners are virtually indistinguishable from each other, having practically no real personality and they have forgotten what it means to be human. Leading to insanity and the absurdity in trying to give life meaning by (maybe?) killing people. Despite it being made for and from a different time, with what we see with the Epstein currently, it still feels relevant as a display of the grotesque detachment from reality and moral values the financial elite live in.
