Safe (1995)

An interesting character study and impressively played by Julianne Moore, with how she lives a life where she don’t know what to do with herself. She has completely lost touch with her own ambitions and desires, and trying to find meaning through others. The premise of her being sick from chemicals in the environment, because it can be seen as both a imaginary and real threat. It certainly isn’t complete bogus, but the people claiming to have the solution aren’t exactly trustworthy either. There are also an element of how woman’s health are treated, a real problem where less research is simply done on potential side effects and symptoms that hits woman. The film isn’t conclusive on any of this, leaving many things open, and I do think the first half of the film is the strongest, as everything gets muddled towards the end.
