Blue Velvet (1986)
Clearly a precursor to Twin Peaks with its atmosphere of a hidden disturbing underworld in a quiet all American town. The framing with Jeffrey playing detective and getting too involved is interesting enough, and I can see how it is used as a character study of sorts of him, with Frank pulling him towards chaos, Dorothy is alluring as a woman to be saved and Sandy representing normality and purity. It just really failed to engage me, and to me feels too much like a film that needs to be heavily analyzed and picked apart for symbols and interpretations, and with a major exception in Mulholland Drive, Lynch isn’t that appealing to me it seems.
