A Minute to Pray, a Second to Die (1968)

This is a very overlooked western that could have been one of the masterpieces if handled a bit differently. The script is solid and unique with a story of a very an outlaw who suffers from sudden spasms in his gun hand, with a large group of bounty hunters on his tail. His way out could be a town that offers amnesty to outlaws, though of course the main conflict of the movie stems from those who oppose that as they want the big bounty reward. What makes this stand out is how bleak it actually is, there is little hope, redemption or even any real good guys. All have their own selfish motives at the end of the day. What makes it just short of greatness lies in the directing, as the script is solid with its rather tragic story - sort of similar to The Great Silence. I just think it lacks proper atmosphere to back everything up, Alex Cord isn’t really convincing as an outlaw and the dubbing could certainly be better. Still, more people should watch this as it shows that are still originally ideas to discover in the genre.
