Tenebre (1982)

The giallo genre was already sort of over in the 1980s, but clearly Argento wanted to make a final statement with a meta-narrative and over exposure of genre tropes turned to max, making it almost a parody. More blood, more nudity, deeper knife cuts, more victims, even more funky soundtrack and an overly stylized cinematography with sweeping artistic camera moves that serves no apparent purpose other than aesthetics. Argento does what he does best here, showing he is a level above most others, but I still felt this movie did run a bit on autopilot. All the elements aren’t as groundbreaking or innovative, just competently made.
