The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970)
Leather gloves, sharp knives, red blood and young female victims. Basic ingredients for giallo, and a good one at that, though for Argento it is pretty standard fare. The meat of this is a long police investigation with the main witness playing detective on his own. It is genuinely interesting detective work, with the added tension of death threats from the killer and the girlfriend of the witness becoming increasingly annoyed that he can’t just fly back home and leave the case to the police. It all transpires into a lovely twisty finale. Great little Argento film definitely worth watching, but not a genre classic by any stretch.
