[REC] (2007)
A mid 00s found footage horror filmed like a television program. The authentic look does help at first, making the first couple of brutal shocking scenes stand out. It is raw and primitive, and pure horror at its core - nothing more. I can appreciate how it strips down the genre to its bare essentials, but even with its short running time it also gets old pretty fast. It is both weary simply to constantly hear people screaming at it each other in Spanish, and once the infection snowball gets going there are few new ideas. Things just escalate. It is noisy, shaky and messy almost from start to finish, and then it loses its edge when it just keeps going.
