Rififi (1955)
This is worth watching just for the heist scene alone. Every later film involving some sort of planned break in, from Mission Impossible, to the Ocean’s films to the popular Danish Olsen Banden, are all taking notes from this. A well executed plan for stealing some expensive jewelry depicted without any words, yet calm and tense at the same time. What it lacks though is everything around it. The group of criminals aren’t exactly likeable, funny or charismatic, so the inevitable downturn didn’t engage me that much.
