In the Fade (2017)
An extremely tragic yet fairly straightforward courtroom drama, with a sinister ending. Following the tragic death of her husband and son from a bomb attack, Katja - impressively portrayed by Diane Kruger, seeks justice in the wake of her grief. It plays off as dramatized court room proceedings, with Diane Kruger sealing the emotional impact with her performance. Despite that strong performance, I don’t think the film really opens up its themes of grief, justice and revenge. I appreciate it didn’t end exactly as I thought it would, but it is still pretty straightforward and doesn’t leave a lot of open room afterwards.
