Undine (2020)

My third Christian Petzold film and he continues to create unique viewing experience that all have an auteurs signature. This one was difficult to get a proper grip on, as we clearly see a very strong romance going with full force, but from two people that don’t emit that much warmth or emotions. Paula Beer was very breathtaking and enchanting i Afire, but something about her presence in this film is very different - even though she looks the same. Maybe it is the cold city environment that does it? I didn’t get much chemistry between the two, but this isn’t meant as a normal romance with the whole link to mythical water beings that makes it more scary and dark. That part of it never sat right with me, but I was intrigued none the less - because the film was hard to fully get a grip on with things that were meant to properly add up. Definitely want to see more of both Paula Beer and Christian Petzold.
