Honeyland (2019)

This came highly recommended and I understand why. Very unique form of authentic story telling. Clearly a documentary that was made and perfected in the editing room, with a neutral distance to its characters that unfolds a very thought-provoking and thoughtful narrative, without feeling the least bit forced. In an odd way, the film is both very pleasant and very uncomfortable. The simple life in contact with nature is intriguing, but we are not glossing over the fact that we still are witnessing poverty. But the worst of it comes from that nomadic visiting family, that just have a very rude and unpleasant aura around basically everything they do in all their carelessness. Though they are also just trying to survive, so I had room for some sympathy for them regardless. The depiction of conflict, survival, traditions and taking care of your neighborhood and the land around you, is very much unprecedented.
