All We Imagine as Light (2024)

Cannes winners is something I always watch with some anticipation. They might not always be the greatest film ever, but are usually always worth watching. No exception here with a lovely slice of life type of narrative set in Mumbai following three very different woman as they are basically just trying to find their place in the world. I honesty don’t know much about India, its people or its culture, but this definitely feels more authentic than say something like Slumdog Millionaire. The film creates a sense of dealing with real people, with a background, with hopes and dreams, and their surroundings and people they meet are not merely story devices, but equally lived and real. The narrative isn’t the meat of the story, and the for me exotic setting was admittedly what kept me captivated, as I would probably have been more bored if the same story was told in a western setting.
