Navajo Joe (1966)
As I am always expanding my ways into the spaghetti western genre, I also need to rewatch movies I haven’t seen in like 15 years. It is more or less like seeing it for the first time, as I mostly remember the fantastic iconic Morricone score. What is interesting here is how Corbucci portrays the native American with the Joe character. He openly challenges who is the “most” American, whose land it is and the film generally side with him and has not so subtle criticism of the white settlers. Joe is also a bit of a superman acting as a one man army, which I do think gets a bit out of hand in terms of believability, but this subgenre has never been about authenticity anyways.
Compared to Corbucci’s other westerns, this is a more in the action entertainment camp than the more politically charged films of his, but it still has clear distinct elements of his.
