Matalo! (Kill Him) (1970)
Directors starting getting more experimental with the genre, and this could be called an acid western like El Topo with basically the same plot as Kill the Wicked. The extra material on the Bluray actually says that it is the same script that was used as inspiration and apparently the director didn’t knew he was making basically a remake.
This gets off to a pretty good start, setting the atmosphere as truly unique with wild editing and acid rock for a soundtrack. It heavily leans into the absurdity of symbolism, even more so than Kill the Wicked (but thankfully less than El Topo). I was a little lost what is what all supposed to mean, but the vibe of the film did manage to keep a hook in me. Might need to rewatch it with the commentary track.
