The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
I mostly gave this a chance because it is on the NYT list of best of the 21st century, and while I did like seeing an earlier Wes Anderson where his signature style isn’t as millimeter precise or calculated as it came to be later, you might even call this normal, I didn’t get very much out of this. I have enjoyed some of his other works, because the world and style was all encompassing and could complete the experience, but this is more just a family drama and then I cannot get engaged with this very flat neutral acting style he applies.
