Le Havre (2011)
Kaurismäki always incorporates some level of social and political commentary in his films, though rarely as direct as here. His unique is still intact, with lovely color compositions and a fairy tale like narrative. The film strikes an interesting of not making light of immigration issues, but things are generally kept in a positive feel good mood showing people when they are at their most compassionate and building a strong community. If anyone needs an introduction to Kaurismäki, this won’t be a bad place to start.
