Conclave (2024)
A well crafted and acted thriller with an almost ridiculous amount of intrigues and backstabbing with too many twists to be entirely plausible, but it makes for high tension entertainment. The cinematography it impressive in how it makes everything look both grand and claustrophobic. The surroundings is big beautiful rooms, but it feels very cramped accentuating the cardinals isolation.
Beyond the mere depiction of the backroom deals, tense voting sessions and who has dirt on who, I liked how the film also explored these holy men desire for power. Something they can’t outright say they want, as it is better to appear humble, but it is still there. It is a lifelong dream and they all know they only have this chance, and it is devastating when it becomes shattered.
