Orlando (1992)

I only knew this starred Tilda Swinton and was on the Sight & Sound list. No need to know much more, as that just elevates the experiences of the unexpected developments of this weird fable of a film. Tilda is absolutely perfect for this peculiar role of gender roles through several hundred years. Each period is both a small little microcosm of absurdity and connected with the whole narrative with Tilda as the anchor. It is a film that is really hard to describe, but it far from an impenetrable art house film, but in a way it is exactly that. I think most viewers will get something out of it, though probably very different takeaways.
