Kill Them All and Come Back Alone (1968)
This movie is all kinds of crazy. More of an action movie than a spaghetti western. You know the tone of the film from the start with people pole-vaulting between buildings, firing off primitive bazookas and the barfights looks like the arcade game Streets of Rage. When people get shot in this movie, and the bodycount is equally ridiculous, they don’t just fall over - they do a full 360 spin before falling over. And more often than not, fall off a tall building as well. There is a doom style FPS scene where Chuck Connors is shooting down Union soldiers from a mining wagon. Speaking of Chuck, he is great as more buffed up and sunbeaten version of Charlton Heston. The setting is right in the middle of the Civil War, but it is just used as a cool window dressing. The movie doesn’t seem to have much to say about politics, and I don’t think too much is to be read into the fact that the “heroes” are hired by the Confederate Army to steal gold from the Union Army, with a massive body count of Union soldiers in the process.
