When the Light Breaks (2024)
A tragic story about complications of grief that shows some good performance by the lead actress in particular, but otherwise was very flat for me. Elín Hall is great at showing a young women in grief, who is also struggling with not being able to show that grief, because she was the secret lover of the guy who died in accident, and of course his girlfriend gets most of the attention. Not a bad premise for a three way love grief triangle dilemma, but the movie is very one note. It is basically the same scene again and again. Someone is falling over crying every 10 minutes, which is understandable given what has happened, it did became tiresome and it didn’t move it at all. I am also puzzled on the reason to make the accident a big national tragedy with dozens of death. It isn’t used for anything, like put a different perspective on how to deal with such things when other strangers are dealing with the same. But it might as well has been a solo car accident for most of the film.
