Drifting Clouds (1996)
This is a Kaurismäki film through and through with all his trademarks. A sort of sweet story about struggling working class people starring Kati Outinen in the lead. The quirky humor gives contrast to the pretty bleak story. I can’t find much wrong with it; however, it didn’t get me nearly as much as his other films. I didn’t laugh as much, it didn’t surprise me we any really unexpected developments and it felt like it just drifted through the motions. In a way, it almost felt too “normal” for a Kaurismäki film.
