The Producers (1967)
Compared to the other Mel Brooks films I know, this is almost “normal”. Mostly grounded in reality. The setup is nice and simple, though it quickly becomes obvious where it will ultimately lead when the whole premise is that they need the play to fail. I didn’t laugh nearly as much as I did with Blazing Saddles and most of it was in the final act. The Hitler casing was hilarious as well as the audiences first reaction. But I felt too much of the humor relied on Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel screaming at each other, and that got annoying pretty early on.
