L'Avventura (1960)
There is something ironic and funny with a film called “The Adventure” that barely has a plot and completely abandons the missing person mystery it sets up in the beginning. But it is also quite an achievement that it actually works. I don’t remember exactly where, but at one point I had completely forgotten about Anna and didn’t really care anymore. Just like the characters. Mission accomplished for Antonioni in that regard.
These sort of Italian plotless moodpiece classics are hit and miss for me. I liked La Dolce Vita and Journey to Italy, but this was mostly interesting for what it did to break down normal film structure and its cinematography. There is also only so much you can get invested in rich people and their problems with feeling bored in life.
