The Night of the Hunter (1955)
I thought this was just another 50s noir and happily surprised that it was so much more. It is more sinister than the usual crime type plots with having two kids at the center of danger on a backdrop of the great depression. It is a film that reach both backwards to silent movie aesthetics and forwards with a script that clearly have inspired people like the Coen brothers. A failure at release but really just way ahead of its time.
