That Time of Year (2018)
This is becoming our cozy Christmas classic movie. Not something we need to see every year, but it does come up every once in a while. It is part comedy part drama, in a combination that works surprisingly well here. Because often Danish comedies gets too silly and some drama gets very heavy. This strikes a perfect balance. What really sells it for me is how every character here is portrayed as well developed people with flaws, back stories, good sides and less desirable traits. But all evoking sympathy and understanding for how they deal with one mess of an evening with complex family relations and dynamics. While this particular Christmas eve is an exaggerated caricature, I am sure most Danes would be able to relate to at least one or two scenes as something they have experienced.
